Live In The Moment

June 5, 2012

I got this tattoo earlier this year as a reminder. Live today. Live right now. Live.

It’s the Dave Matthews Band fire dancer. For all intents and purposes, it’s his logo. I didn’t get it because I am a huge DMB fan. I didn’t get it because Brandon and I first met at a Dave show. I got it because at that very concert where I first met Brandon, I walked through a crowd of people who were really truly living in the moment. They were alive with the music. Nothing mattered except what what going on right there in that millisecond of time. It was an eye-opening experience for me.

It’s amazing that music can do that to you. It can transport you to an expression of yourself that is your true and authentic Self. It’s the same reason that I practice yoga.

At that point in time, when I walked through the crowd at my first Dave show, I wasn’t there. I wasn’t living in the moment. I didn’t even know how to begin to try. Meeting Brandon was my first step…everybody needs a guru, after all. Experiencing everyone else’s pure and complete bliss that night, that was another step. Now I’m well on my way, all I need to do is look down at my arm and believe that I am right where I am supposed to be.

Now you know why I got my tattoo. Peace + love.

That’s a really beautiful story behind the tattoo.

Concerts are always a healing event for me too. Music is my therapy, and something about standing in a crowd with a bazillion other people, not caring about being so close to each other or looking good or impressing anyone…just standing there, living and enjoying…that, in a nutshell, is why Im a sucker for a good concert.
