3 Simple Steps to Enjoying New York
New York is like no other city in the world when it comes to satisfying our insatiable appetite for ‘Peace, Love and Bagels,’ and on each count New York delivers with perfection. There have no doubt been millions of words written in awe about New York but I cannot resist in adding some of my own musings on the city and in doing so give you would-be visitors a simple guide on things to do in the city that doesn’t sleep.
So with this being said here are my 3 favourite things to do when visiting the ‘Big Apple…’
3) Visit Central Park
In a city as bustling and insane as New York, one of the most important things to do is to take some time to sit down, relax and digest the madness and excitement and that is why Central Park make it in at number 3. This urban park sits in Manhattan and offers you rolling lawns, ponds, a lake and fantastic views of the cities’ skyscrapers on all 4 sides of the park. There is much to do inside the park such as sports on the reservoir, take in the art by seeing some of the great sculptures or take a boat out on the lake, there is even a small zoo. All of this is a world away from the concrete jungle in its appearance by you sit right in the belly of Manhattan when you visit.
2) The Statue of Liberty
I simply could not leave this one out, and whilst I appreciate that ,in lists such as these the Statue’s presence is ubiquitous, well there is a reason for that… She’s amazing!! Of course from afar the view of her is splendid but when you jump on that ferry over to Liberty Island and start to get closer, that’s when the true magnitude of this symbol of freedom really hits you.
For those who don’t know, the statue was a gift from the French in celebration of the American Declaration of Independence, OK. History lesson over. Once you get to the Statue or at least the Island, you can either choose to stay at the bottom and enjoy the awesome view or you can be bold and climb the steep 345 stairs right up the middle of the statue arriving at the Crown, I can tell you now that THAT is where the real view is. New York in all it’s splendour, seen through the eyes of freedom.
1) Just Wandering Around
New York has hundreds of landmarks, ‘must see’ attractions, architectural wonders and toru guides waiting to show you them all, which is why my number 1 is the most simplest of pleasures, just making your way around and see what delights you find. Firstly, getting around is so simple and you have many options to do so.
For instance you can take one of the famous yellow cabs which fly around the city, or you could head down to the subway to traverse the city, you can even hire yourself a limo, and what a chauffeur service New York can offer you, friendly drivers looking to cater for your needs such as taking you to your local Day Spas in New York City, NY at the end of your trip.
Tour guides will not always show you the cute little Italian restaurant tucked away down a dusty sidestreet, nor will they take you to some of the most amazing street art the city can offer, adorning buildings and skate parks across the city and nor can they introduce you to some of the craziest characters you’re ever likely to meet. The only way you can achieve any of this is to simply make your own way around the Big Apple, stopping off at any where that takes your fancy, and I’m sure you’ll see something fascinating.
